Govt bars cricket body from using 'India' name

The Union sports ministry has ordered the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India to stop using 'India' in its name as it lacks NSF recognition.

The Union sports ministry has directed the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI) to remove 'India' or 'Indian' from its name and activities, stating only government-recognized federations can use these terms. Similar notices were sent to other sports bodies including the Women's Football Federation of India and the Indian Body Builders' Federation.

DCCI secretary Ravi Kant Chauhan confirmed receiving the letter and requested NSF status for the organization, which has organized international tournaments despite lacking BCCI recognition. The ministry cited the National Sports Governance Act in its directive, noting that all sports bodies must seek recognition from the National Sports Board, which is yet to be established.
