Despite the NFL's Rooney Rule, which calls for teams that develop minority executives to receive compensatory picks when they're hired elsewhere, the Bears are not expected to get those picks after Ian Cunningham became the Falcons' GM. Falcons president of football Matt Ryan is considered the top football executive in Atlanta.
Cunningham, who was driving the ship in Atlanta according to Ryan, expressed his belief that the Bears should receive two third-round picks based on his understanding of the rule. 'I'm the General Manager. I was hired. I would think that they would get two third-round picks,' Cunningham stated. Bears GM Ryan Poles called the situation 'a little odd' and the rule 'strange,' noting that the Chiefs received picks when he was hired in Chicago.
