There are so many false rumors and smokescreens around the NFL, but the idea that the Los Angeles Rams need to address their cornerbacks and defense is no secret.
Last year, the Rams had perhaps the best offense in the league (the genunine best by some metrics), but their defense was more middle of the road.
Going into this year, the expectation is that the Rams offense can be potent again, but can the defense be better? Specifically, can the defense hold teams in those crunch time moments consistently?
Whether or not the team will be able to hold off modern day offenses will have a lot to do with their cornerbacks playing in sync with the rest of the unit.
In 2025 the defense wasn’t horrible, but it seemed to peak too early, whereas the offense was stout all year. The special teams for L.A., at least in the kicking game, vastly improved. The defense under Chris Shula can be better, and will need to be better for the Rams to improve.
No surprises here, the Rams needs cornerbacks. How will they address it? That’s a fun question, why don’t you comment on it below!

NFL free agency: Rams biggest concern is at cornerback (latimes.com)
“With free agency set to begin next week, general manager Les Snead and coach Sean McVay are ramping up their attempt to fortify a roster that is expected to make the Rams one of the favorites to play in Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stadium in February 2027.
The Rams did it before. In 2021, when the team traded for quarterback Matthew Stafford in January, re-signed edge rusher Leonard Floyd, and bolstered the team late in the season by signing receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and trading for edge rusher Von Miller.“
Rams GM Les Snead: Would be nice to add an All-Pro to the secondary (nbcsports)
“Is there an All-Pro that you could add?” Snead said, via Nate Atkins of TheAthletic.com. “That would be nice.”
There aren’t any All-Pros available in free agency, but a trade could be a possibility and the chances of making one are helped by the Rams holding a pair of first-round picks this year. Snead’s well known for saying “f—k them picks” while building the Rams’ Super Bowl LXI winners and he said on Tuesday that he’s looking for “a player who is going to give us an edge and make an impact.”
Rams, Matthew Stafford have had ‘great dialogue’ about QB’s contract situation (ramswire)
“With one year and $40 million left on his deal, the Rams and Stafford have begun discussing a new contract. Sean McVay provided an update on that situation during his media session on Tuesday, saying the two sides have had a “great dialogue” so far.
Stafford already publicly announced his plans to return in 2026, so it’s hard to imagine this next revision to his deal taking very long. It could simply be about adding another year to his contract, giving him the option to keep playing for the Rams in 2027, if he decides he wants to.“
NFL Draft Expert Suggests LA Rams Eyeing Specific Player as Stafford’s Replacement (sportsnaut)
“However, at 38, the three-time Pro Bowler is in the winter of his career, and the organization must begin preparations for a succession plan with only one season left on his current contract. Fortunately for the LA Rams, they have not one, but two first-round picks in April’s NFL Draft.
LA has been linked to a variety of players with their picks at 13 and 29, respectively. However, NFL Draft expert Todd McShay believes they are taking a hard look at a potential Stafford replacement with one of those selections.“
