ESPN suggests Broncos could trade their backup quarterback

Well, this is an expected twist.

In a recent roundup of NFL buzz for ESPN, Dan Graziano suggested that several backup quarterback coule be on the trade block as the league approaches free agency.

Graziano mentioned several backup quarterbacks who could be trade candidates, including Jarrett Stidham of the Denver Broncos. Here's an excerpt from his story:

Teams that have better-known backups entering the final years of their contracts -- such as Bagent in Chicago, Tanner McKee in Philadelphia, Will Levis in Tennessee, Davis Mills in Houston, Jarrett Stidham in Denver, etc. -- are seeing if there's interest and whether they can get trade value out of this offseason's odd QB market.

Denver trading Stidham would be an unexpected move. Yes, the 29-year-old quarterback is entering the final year of his contract, but he's clearly been a good mentor for Bo Nix, and coach Sean Payton has been full of praise for Stidham. Sam Ehlinger is also set to become a free agent next week, so if the team trades Stidham, Nix would be the only remaining QB under contract for 2026.

The Broncos likely prefer having a veteran QB with some starting experience behind Nix, and if they traded Stidham, they'd have to find a replacement and get him up to speed. Stidham, on the other hand, has been in Payton's offense since 2023, and he has a good relationship with Nix and offensive coordinator Davis Webb.

While a trade might be possible, it certainly doesn't seem likely.
