Forward Cian Ashford signs new Cardiff contract

Cardiff City forward Cian Ashford has signed a new contract until the summer of 2030.

The 21-year-old's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season, and boss Brian Barry-Murphy says he has been rewarded for showing "exceptional improvement".

Ashford has played 38 times this season and scored five goals, including in Saturday's 4-0 win at Doncaster Rovers that kept the Bluebirds top of League One.

"It's been in the works for a while now. I'm happy to get it done and dusted and sign the papers," said Ashford on Cardiff's official website.

"The club is in a really good place at the moment.

"This means a lot to me. I love playing here and walking out at Cardiff City Stadium. I'm delighted that my future is at Cardiff City."

The Wales Under-21 international, who was born and raised in the Rhondda, joined Cardiff's academy at the age of six.

He went on to make his senior debut in April 2024 and has been part of the first team squad ever since, making more than 70 appearances.

"We're really pleased that Cian sees his future here," said Bluebirds boss Brian Barry-Murphy.

"He's had a really good season, but I think the most impressive thing about him is that we're now seeing exceptional improvement and growth, which we think will be even more evident as the season progresses.

"The players who have made so much progress and come through from such a young age at the academy are the heartbeat.

"When they have so much potential and the mentality to match that, then to keep them at Cardiff City is very important."
