Barcelona yet to open renewal talks with 26-year-old ace despite priority status

A new report from AS has revealed an unexpected development regarding Ferran Torres and his future at Barcelona.

Despite the club’s preference to extend his contract, there have been no formal discussions between the two parties so far this season. 

Ferran’s current deal runs until 2027, which means there is still time, but inside Barcelona, it has long been established that allowing players to approach the final year of their contracts is not ideal. 

For that reason, the lack of movement is raising eyebrows.

What’s the situation like?

What makes the situation even more surprising is Ferran’s output on the pitch. 

The Spanish forward has scored 16 goals in 35 appearances this season, delivering his most consistent campaign in a Barcelona shirt. 

With those numbers, many would expect renewal talks to be well underway.

Internally, sporting director Deco reportedly considers Ferran’s extension a priority. Yet no call has been made, and no negotiations have started.

This is why the delay is difficult to explain, especially at a time when the attacking department is set for change.

Robert Lewandowski’s eventual departure is widely seen as a matter of time, and the club’s focus is already shifting towards signing a new striker for the 2026-27 season. 

Several names have been linked, but Ferran’s statistics compare favourably.

To put it in perspective, Julian Alvarez has scored 14 goals this season, Benjamin Sesko has managed eight, and Dusan Vlahovic has six. 

As suchm Ferran’s 16 goals put him ahead of all of them at this stage of the campaign.

With the decisive stretch of the season approaching, Ferran continues to deliver while waiting for clarity about his future. 

The intention from Barcelona appears positive, but until concrete talks begin, uncertainty remains.

For now, the numbers speak loudly. Ferran Torres is producing and many are wondering why the renewal process has not already begun.
