Looking at the Los Angeles Rams’ roster and rushing statistics from last season, you wouldn’t think they would target a running back early in the draft. But with Les Snead and Sean McVay, you simply never know.
Top running back Jeremiyah Love confirmed on “The Rich Eisen Show” Friday that he had a formal meeting with the Rams at the NFL combine. Snead and McVay aren’t in attendance, so he didn’t meet with them, but other members of the team must have sat down with the Notre Dame star.
There are a handful of positions in this class where the No. 1 player has separated himself from the rest, and running back is certainly one of them. Love is the unquestioned top back in this class, and someone who’s regarded similarly to Ashton Jeanty from a year ago.
Popular landing spots for Love in mock drafts are the Saints at No. 8 and the Chiefs at No. 9, but he could go even earlier than that – especially if one of those two teams trades up for him.
It’s hard to see him getting to the Rams at No. 13, but it’s still interesting that they had a formal meeting with the standout rusher. Kyren Williams just signed a contract extension, Blake Corum still has two years left on his rookie deal and Jarquez Hunter was drafted in the fourth round last year.
Los Angeles is loaded at the position, but adding a blue-chip talent like Love would be a game-changer on offense. He rushed for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns last season on only 199 attempts, the second straight year he had at least 17 touchdowns and averaged 6.9 yards per carry.
Love also caught 27 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver.
