Former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz has plenty of praise for rising star Roman Anthony.

Ortiz became a legendary Red Sox player, and he’s paid close attention to his former team since then. Ahead of the 2026 MLB season, Ortiz has plenty of praise for Anthony as he called him the total package.

“He’s the full package,” Ortiz told the Boston Herald in an article published on Thursday. “Great kid, very mature for his age, he wants it and he adjusted himself to this level very fast. I expect him to stay healthy, and I know he’s going to dominate in this league.”

Anthony, meanwhile, said he has gotten close to Ortiz since being in the Red Sox’s system.

So, the rising star said he’s talked to Ortiz and continues to learn from him.

“It’s been great for a few years now, back in the minor leagues and when I was a prospect coming up, even maybe not the biggest prospect he was always great to me, always made sure I knew his phone is always open, he’s always willing to talk when he’s down here,” Anthony added.

“He checks in on me, he checks in on my family every time I see him. I think we all are aware of his character, and to a guy like me and to my family it means a ton, and coming from somebody like him who had so much success in the way that he did, it’s awesome.”

Anthony is entering his first full MLB season. He appeared in 71 games last season with the Red Sox and took the league by storm, as he hit .292 with eight home runs and 92 RBIs.
