Nigeria: Arthur Okonkwo officially cleared to join the Super Eagles

FIFA has given the green light for Arthur Okonkwo to switch his sporting nationality. The 24-year-old goalkeeper is now officially eligible to represent Nigeria.

The Nigerian Football Federation confirmed that Arthur Okonkwo is now able to don the national team colors, expressing delight at welcoming a new talent to the Super Eagles squad.

The towering shot-stopper, standing at 1.98 meters, is currently the first-choice goalkeeper for Wrexham United in the Championship. This season, Okonkwo has featured in 31 matches and kept 7 clean sheets.Born in England to Nigerian parents, he came up through the Arsenal youth system. Before choosing to represent Nigeria, Arthur Okonkwo played for England at youth levels—specifically under-15, under-16, under-17, and under-18 teams.

If called up by Eric Chel, he could be a genuine contender for the starting goalkeeper spot with the Super Eagles. For the record, Stanley Nwabili is currently without a club following his departure from Chippa United.
