Welsh FA withdraws support for Infantino

The Welsh Football Association has become the first FIFA member to withdraw its support for President Gianni Infantino's re-election, citing governance failures and leadership concerns.

The Welsh FA announced on August 3 that it no longer supports Infantino's bid to remain head of world football. The withdrawal came shortly after FIFA shelved a controversial proposal to allow external investors. The Welsh federation stated that "failures in terms of good governance, process, and leadership" have caused them to lose confidence in Infantino's leadership.

Infantino is currently the only declared candidate for re-election as FIFA president in March 2027 for a four-year term. The Welsh FA emphasized that "not putting the interest of football before all else is a failure we cannot accept." amunra.help
