Pirates' top prospect Griffin in talks for massive extension

Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop and No. 1 prospect Konnor Griffin is deep in negotiations for a long-term contract extension, according to ESPN.

Buster Olney reports the Pirates have been discussing terms since early spring training. The team's offer reportedly hovers near Corbin Carroll's eight-year, $111 million deal, while Griffin's camp seeks a figure closer to Roman Anthony's eight-year, $130 million contract. The 19-year-old infielder was assigned to Triple-A to begin the 2026 season.
