2026 World Cup Playoffs Set to Decide Final Six Spots

The 2026 World Cup will be decided this week as two playoff tournaments finish, with Europe fighting for four spots and an intercontinental event in Mexico awarding the remaining two.

European teams will battle for four of the final six spots in a winner‑take‑all format. Bosnia‑Herzegovina face Italy, Sweden play Poland, Kosovo square off with Turkey, and the Czech Republic take on Denmark, all on Tuesday. The victor of the Turkey‑Kosovo match will join Group D, already set to include the United States, Paraguay and Australia.

In Mexico, the intercontinental playoff will decide the remaining two places. Congo will host Jamaica, while Bolivia meets Iraq in Guadalajara and Monterrey. The winners will join the 48‑team field that includes the co‑hosts Canada, Mexico and the United States, with the tournament kicking off on June 11 at Azteca Stadium.
