Prison Strip Searches Rarely Find Contraband

A new report reveals that less than 1% of prison strip searches actually find contraband, with study authors demanding an end to what they describe as a traumatising practice.

The report, based on data from prisons across the country, found that the vast majority of strip searches conducted fail to uncover any prohibited items. Despite these low success rates, the practice continues routinely.

Study authors are calling for an immediate end to what they term a degrading and traumatising procedure, arguing that the minimal benefits do not justify the psychological harm inflicted on inmates.
