Blue Jays' Santander to miss 5-6 months after shoulder surgery

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Anthony Santander will miss 5-6 months after shoulder surgery for a torn labrum, an injury that returned in January when he resumed hitting.

Santander, 31, revealed Wednesday that his shoulder pain returned in January when he began hitting again after some time off. An MRI then confirmed the torn labrum, which was made public on the first day of spring training.

The injury is a setback for the Blue Jays, as Santander is in the second year of a five-year, $92.5 million contract. He missed most of last season rehabbing the same left shoulder, appearing in just 54 regular-season games and five more in the post-season.
