Zundell Makes WV History with Sub-Four Mile

Former University High School state champion and current Syracuse runner Drew Zundell became only the third West Virginian ever to break the four-minute mile barrier, running 3:59.04 at a meet in Boston.

Drew Zundell, a former University High School state champion and current Syracuse Orange athlete, joined rare company when he became only the third runner from West Virginia to record a sub-four minute mile. The SU sophomore crossed the finish line in 3:59.04 at a meet in Boston, MA.

Former SU coach Chris Fox, who is also one of the other two runners from WV to accomplish this feat, was on hand to witness Zundell's achievement. Zundell described the moment as a "full-circle moment," noting that running sub-four minutes became a real possibility after he ran 4:03 earlier in the season at Cornell.
