Former Steelers DB Mike Wagner Dies at 76

Mike Wagner, a key defensive back for the Steelers' Steel Curtain dynasty, died at 76. He was a four‑time Super Bowl champion and recorded interceptions in the first two titles.

Wagner, drafted in the 11th round of the 1971 NFL Draft, became a starter as a rookie and amassed 36 interceptions over 10 seasons. He was instrumental in the Steelers' 1974–1978 championship run, intercepting Fran Tarkenton in Super Bowl IX and Dallas Cowboys’ Drew Pearson in Super Bowl X.

The franchise released a statement praising his toughness, consistency, and team‑first mentality. Steelers owner Art Rooney II said Wagner will always be remembered as a champion and proud member of the Steelers family.
