F1 Engine Compression Ratio Vote

Formula 1's five power unit manufacturers will vote on proposed changes to engine compression ratio measurement methods.

The proposed tweak could come into force over the summer break as F1 prepares for 2026 regulations that mandate a compression ratio of 16:1, down from 18:1 last year.

Currently, compression ratios have always been measured at ambient temperature when the engine isn't running, a practice manufacturers now seek to modify through the vote.
