India Women vs Hong Kong Women Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Group A: Harmanpreet Kaur’s India Women cricket team will go up against minnows Hong Kong in their second Group A match of the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2026 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. The Indians got their campaign off with a massive 94-run win over Thailand in their opening game of the tournament last week.
A win over Hong Kong will almost ensure a berth in the semifinals ahead of their all-important clash against arch-rivals Pakistan women team on Saturday. There were, however, a few concerns for India after they collapsed from 108 for 2 at one stage to 137 for 9 – losing 7 wickets for 29 runs. “We are playing T20s so it’s not that every time we will be executing our plans. There will be times when we will probably not execute the plans as great as we would have wanted to and so there will be a downfall,” Indian bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi said in the pre-match press conference in Dubai on Wednesday.
Indian opener Shafali Verma was the top-scorer in their opening match against Thailand with 64. “If you see, there was a comeback also. They came back really well (and) stretched the partnership at the end. Those important runs were contributed from the lower-order batters, which probably created that 160 mark and then after that, you saw how they bowled in the game,” Salvi said. mchezo.life
Hong Kong, on the other hand, began with a heartbreaking six-run loss to Thailand in their opening match of the Asia Cup last week. Chasing 121 to win, the Hong Kong side ended up with only 114 for 7 in 20 overs.

North Delhi Strikers crowned DPL 2026 Women’s champions after six-wicket win over South Delhi Superstarz
New Delhi [India], September 3 (ANI): North Delhi Strikers (Women) were crowned champions of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 Women’s competition after registering a six-wicket victory over South Delhi Superstarz (Women) in the final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.
Chasing a modest target of 123, North Delhi Strikers held their nerve to reach 128/4 in 19 overs and lift the coveted title.
Earlier, South Delhi Superstarz posted 122/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Captain Shweta Sehrawat led the scoring with 31 runs off 32 balls, hitting three boundaries, while wicketkeeper Nishika Singh remained unbeaten on a valuable 39 off 30 deliveries, including four fours and a six.
The Strikers’ bowlers produced a disciplined performance to restrict the Superstarz. Priya Mishra, Nazma, Archana, Reshika Beniwal and Apeksha Anand picked up a wicket each, while the bowlers maintained consistent pressure throughout the innings.
Apeksha was particularly economical, conceding just 13 runs in her four-over spell.
North Delhi Strikers began their chase positively through Upasana Yadav, who struck two boundaries during her quick nine off eight balls. However, the Superstarz fought back with early wickets, reducing the Strikers to 15/2.
Captain Ayushi Soni and Archana then steadied the innings with an important partnership. Ayushi scored 43 off 39 balls, while Archana played a crucial knock of 40 off 36 deliveries, which included four fours and a six.
With North Delhi needing 20 runs from the final four overs, the match was still finely poised.
However, Nazma remained calm under pressure and scored an unbeaten 24 off 19 balls, hitting four boundaries. Samaira Raghav provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten seven off six balls, including a six.
North Delhi Strikers eventually crossed the finish line in the penultimate over, completing a memorable six-wicket victory and being crowned the DPL 2026 Women’s champions. (ANI)

Bayern Munich cruise past Osnabruck 4-1 to reach DFB Cup second round
Osnabrück [Germany], September 3 (ANI): Bayern Munich overcame an early setback to beat VfL Osnabrück 4-1 and book their place in the second round of the DFB Cup.
Robin Meibner gave Osnabrück a surprise early lead, but Harry Kane restored parity for Bayern before Tom Bischof put the visitors ahead midway through the first half.
Michael Olise extended Bayern’s advantage after the break before Kane converted a late penalty to complete his brace and seal a comfortable victory for Vincent Kompany’s side.
Osnabrück started brightly as Meibner received a long ball and fired a powerful effort from distance past Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.
Bayern controlled possession and created pressure but found it difficult to break through the hosts’ organised defence. The visitors eventually equalised when Osnabruck failed to clear a cross, allowing Kane to finish from close range.
Bayern Munich then turned the game around shortly afterwards. Luis Diaz’s effort was saved, but Bischof reacted quickly to the rebound and found the net to give Bayern a 2-1 lead at half-time.
The Bundesliga champions continued to dominate after the restart, although clear chances remained limited. Osnabrück goalkeeper Jonas Krumrey denied efforts from Olise and Ismael Saibari as Bayern looked to put the game beyond doubt.
Olise eventually made it 3-1 when he was set up by Lennart Karl and lifted the ball over Krumrey.
Bayern Munich sealed the victory in the closing stages after Aleksandar Pavlovic was brought down inside the box. Kane stepped up to take the resulting penalty and calmly converted to complete his brace.
Substitute Konrad Laimer came close to adding another, but his effort was saved as Bayern comfortably progressed to the next round.
Bayern Munich will return to Bundesliga action on Saturday when they travel to face Schalke. They will also know the identity of their next cup opponents on the same day. (ANI)

The love for Test cricket is there in my blood: Tilak Varma after his sterling efforts in 2026 Duleep Trophy

Sometimes, sport isn’t about all the mundane stats that are thrown at you. It is about how a sporting contest elevates our senses and takes us to an imaginary world to visualise different aspects of the one-to-one battle. One such keen tussle was witnessed between Tilak Varma and Gurnoor Brar in the 2026 Duleep Trophy semi-final played at the Centre of Excellence.
An incident from the second innings of the game provides a snapshot of the engrossing battle: with fluid strides, Gurnoor charged to the crease, pounded the deck hard and got one to nip away slightly from the left-hand batter, Tilak. There was a muted appeal for a caught behind too, only for it to be turned down. Tilak, however, erased the false shot induced by Gurnoor from his mind and continued to bat with a calm countenance, steering South Zone to a memorable win.
The Gurnoor-Tilak contest extended far beyond just the final innings. In South Zone’s first innings, the conditions seemed to favour North Zone’s formidable pace attack. At one stage, Gurnoor had bowled a couple of peaches to dislodge R Smaran and Narayan Jagadeesan and reduce South to 80 for five. The only thing was that North’s pacers still had to find a way through the ‘Rock of Hyderabad’, Tilak.
With the ball moving in the air, and more so off the seam, Tilak had his share of edges while up against Gurnoor. However, it is also true that he waited and waited for Gurnoor and Co. to either bowl on his pads or offer width, allowing him to maximise every loose ball on offer. Even when the conditions got better for batting, Gurnoor kept up his intensity levels, hitting Tilak’s bat hard on impact. Meanwhile, Tilak maintained his concentration levels to essay an undefeated hundred. Although Tilak took the bragging rights, having remained unbeaten in both innings, Gurnoor once again gave a glimpse of his burgeoning potential to extract life out of a slow deck.
“There is nothing as such. We are good friends,” Tilak smiled when asked about his duel with Gurnoor. “When we are in the field, the only thing that matters is bat and ball. He was bowling quick today as well; they were coming hard at us. I was playing with patience, close to the body. That was a good reply to them.
“I saw that spell through and then it was easier to bat on. The conditions always change here in Bengaluru, open ground. When we batted, you would have seen the conditions, slightly drizzling. It was also windy. It was challenging to bat on.”
Tilak’s ability to soak up the pressure while facing quality pace bowling gives an inkling that he might one fine day play Test cricket for India. “The love for Test cricket is there in my blood,” he said. “I have always loved to play red-ball cricket. I never dreamt of playing white-ball cricket for India but that’s God’s plan. I have debuted in ODIs and T20Is but the thing is my strength is always in red-ball cricket.”
That quote from Tilak matches how he batted against Gurnoor and Co. at the CoE: gritty, patient and with a sheer passion for playing the longest format.
