Golaghat (Assam) [India], October 2 (ANI): Veteran Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain’s father Tiken Borgohain was overjoyed after his daughter clinched her maiden Asian Games gold medal on her 29th birthday, saying the champion had worked tirelessly to change the colour of the silver she won at the previous edition.
Lovlina defeated China’s Bao Ziyi 5-0 in the women’s 75kg final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Friday to celebrate her birthday with the continental title. liveiplscore.homes
Speaking after her triumph, Tiken said the family was delighted to see Lovlina’s hard work and determination culminate in gold.
“We are absolutely delighted and overjoyed because she won the final today. Today also happens to be her birthday. This is her first Asian Games gold medal. She has worked incredibly hard. She had spoken about winning this gold. She had previously won a silver medal and wanted to change its colour. So seeing that color change now feels wonderful. I am very happy, and on her behalf, I want to thank all my fellow countrymen. So many people prayed for this, and I am deeply grateful to everyone," Lovlina’s father told ANI.
Lovlina, who had won silver in the 75kg category at the Hangzhou Asian Games, produced a composed performance against Bao in the final.
The Chinese boxer started aggressively and threw a flurry of punches in the opening round, but Lovlina stayed patient and landed effective counter punches to edge the round 3-2.
Bao continued to press in the second round, but Lovlina appeared more confident and landed the cleaner punches. She took the round 4-1 to establish a 2-0 lead.
The Indian maintained her strategy in the final round, allowing Bao to come forward while looking for counter-punching opportunities. She was awarded the round unanimously to complete a 5-0 victory.
The gold capped a strong campaign for Lovlina, who had earlier defeated Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova 3-2 in a split decision in the semifinal. The victory made her the first Indian woman boxer to reach consecutive Asian Games finals.
Born on October 2, 1997, in Assam’s Golaghat district, Lovlina has also won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and became world champion in the women’s 75kg category in 2023.
She had earlier won gold at the 2022 Asian Championships and silver at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Her achievements have also earned her the Arjuna Award in 2020 and the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 2021.
Lovlina’s gold took India’s medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games to 70, including 12 gold, 24 silver and 34 bronze. (ANI)

UEFA Nations League: Jurgen Klopp gets first win as Germany manager with 2-0 victory over Serbia
Munich [Germany], October 2 (ANI): Jurgen Klopp secured his first victory as Germany manager as goals from Tom Bischof and Florian Wirtz guided the hosts to a 2-0 win over Serbia in their UEFA Nations League Round 3 encounter at the Allianz Arena.
The victory ended Klopp’s wait for a win in his first three matches in charge and lifted Germany’s hopes of retaining their place in League A, while Serbia were left facing a difficult battle to avoid relegation, according to the website of UEFA Nations League.
Klopp made sweeping changes to the side that suffered a home defeat against Greece on Sunday, with Germany starting brightly and creating a string of opportunities.
Aleksandar Pavlovic came close early on when he curled an effort just wide, while Nick Woltemade also threatened before Serge Gnabry failed to find the target after being played through by Florian Wirtz.
Germany continued to dominate possession and territory, with debutant Derry Scherhant curling narrowly wide and Djordje Petrovic producing a strong one-on-one save to deny Gnabry.
Wirtz then came close to breaking the deadlock when he headed Gnabry’s cross towards goal, only for Petrovic to make the save.
The hosts finally found the breakthrough shortly before half-time. Wirtz displayed fine footwork inside the penalty area before seeing his effort strike the post, but Bischof was quickest to react and fired the rebound into the roof of the net for his first international goal.
Germany continued to threaten after the restart, although they were guilty of wasting several chances.
Scherhant hit the side netting on three occasions, while Said El Mala was introduced and also looked to make an impact on his Germany debut.
Woltemade then missed a huge opportunity from close range, sending the ball over the bar from just a couple of yards after Philipp Treu’s cross.
Germany eventually doubled their advantage in the 60th minute when Maximilian Mittelstadt advanced forward and found Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder turned past Srdjan Babic before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
Serbia struggled to respond as Germany maintained control for the remainder of the contest and restricted the visitors to very few meaningful opportunities.
The result was particularly important for Klopp, who had been in danger of becoming the first Germany manager to go without a victory in his opening three matches.
Germany, ranked 12th in the FIFA rankings, will next face Greece on Sunday as they continue their bid to remain in Nations League League A.
Serbia, ranked 40th, have now suffered six defeats in seven matches in 2026, leaving their top-tier status increasingly under threat. (ANI)
