Pirates Dealt Major Blow as Nduli Faces Four-Month Out

Orlando Pirates have been dealt a major injury blow with midfielder Sihle Nduli set to spend around four months on the sidelines.

Pirates will be aiming to return to winning ways when they face Chippa United this afternoon, but the Buccaneers will have to contend with a number of injury concerns.

Sihle Nduli has been ruled out for a extended period with a Grade 3 ankle ligament tear, while Andre de Jong will also miss the clash through a quad strain. xsportfeed.quest

The Buccaneers also revealed that Tshepang Moremi will faces a late fitness test after picking up a knock in midweek.

“Following a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu in midweek at the Kings Park Stadium, Orlando Pirates return to action this afternoon as they take on Chippa United at the same venue,” Pirates said in a statement.

“The Buccaneers will, however, head into the encounter without midfielder Sihle Nduli, who sustained a significant ankle injury during the clash against Usuthu.

“The 30-year-old was forced off during the match following a heavy challenge and, after further assessment by the Club’s medical team, has been ruled out for an extended period.

“Nduli is expected to be sidelined for approximately four months after suffering a Grade 3 ligament tear, effectively ruling him out of action for the remainder of the year.

“His absence represents a setback for the Buccaneers, with the midfielder having recently returned from a lengthy layoff from a previous injury.

“Pirates will also be without Andre de Jong for this afternoon’s encounter. The midfielder has been ruled out after picking up a quad strain and will not be considered for selection against the Chilli Boys.

“Meanwhile, the Bucs medical team have shared some light regarding the availability of Tshepang Moremi.

“The Bafana Bafana international picked up a knock during the midweek encounter and will undergo a late fitness assessment before a final decision is made regarding his availability.

“With a quick turnaround between fixtures, the focus now shifts firmly towards Chippa United as Pirates look to return to winning ways this afternoon.”

Paul Roos Gimnasium claimed a third successive home win over Grey College, while SACS, Queen’s College and Graeme College also claimed notable victories on Saturday.

In Stellenbosch, Paul Roos produced a commanding second-half performance to beat Grey College 37-29, avenging a narrow loss in Bloemfontein last year.

Grey College led 14-13 at the break but the Maroon Machine took control after the restart.

Eighthman Gerard Bekker crossed twice, his second a stunning long-range intercept that effectively ended the contest, while blindside Stef de Villiers, left wing Cadynn Samuels and outside centre Jean Hamman also touched down as the hosts ran clear.

Paul Roos finished the season with 15 wins and two losses, while Grey suffered a fifth defeat having also gone down to Stellenberg, Australia’s Nudgee College, Paarl Gim and Affies.

Elsewhere in the Western Cape, SACS battered Bishops 55-22, Rondebosch edged Wynberg 33-29 to deny them a Cape Town southern suburbs clean sweep this season, and Bellville saw off DF Akademie 21-18.

In the Eastern Cape, Queen’s beat Dale 22-12 to share the series 1-1, Graeme outclassed Muir 54-27 to end the season with 15 wins (along with one draw and one loss) and Grey High defeated Selborne in a high-scoring 61-47 thriller.

In the Free State, Welkom Gimnasium edged Trio 37-34 and Jim Fouche saw off Sentraal 35-25.

In the Noordvaal, Centurion pipped Potch Gim 27-24, Zwartkop thrashed Oos-Moot 45-10, Standerton beat Hans Strijdom 36-14 and Heidelberg Volkskool and Marais Viljoen drew 27-27.

The Noordvaal Cup semi-finals – between Garsfontein and Waterkloof in Pretoria, and Monument and Noordheuwel in Krugersdorp – will take place on Tuesday.

The All Blacks put on a dominant performance to secure a 50-19 victory over the Vodacom Bulls in their Greatest Rivalry Tour fixture at Loftus Versfeld.

This victory means that the New Zealanders have completed their pre-Test schedule with three wins from as many matches after they also beat the DHL Stormers in Cape Town (38-21) and the Hollywoodbets Sharks in Durban (54-0).

The result was never in doubt, as the visitors took a 24-0 lead at the break, despite some early resistance by the men in blue in front of an appreciative crowd of 30,930, which pushed the total attendance for the three franchise games to 93,000.

While the All Blacks showed their class, the Vodacom Bulls had a number of try-scoring opportunities, with a few of them denied by the TMO.

However, when they lost a player to the sin bin with the Kiwis leading by 12-0 – at that stage the Vodacom Bulls had two tries disallowed – the visitors struck and added two more five-points to take their lead to 24-0 at the break.

The Vodacom Bulls played much better in the second half and scored three tries. Ruan Vermaak and Marcell Coetzee were hard to stop close to the line, while Stravino Jacobs scored a pearl from a blindside attack on halfway, with Jeandre Rudolph and Curwin Bosch, in his first game for his new team, also prominent.

In the end, the highlights were too few and far between for the hosts, while the New Zealanders will regard their three franchise victories as mission accomplished as all the focus now turns to the first Test, which will be played at 10bet Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday (kick-off 17h10, live on SuperSport).
