Shelton faces date with destiny | Email Ella
Will this be the day that the United States’ 23-year wait for a men’s major champion ends? Ben Shelton is having a career year. He has reached four finals – Dallas, Munich, Stuttgart and Montreal – and won the title in all of them. He is: liveiplscore.homes
The first Black American man to reach the US Open singles final since Arthur Ashe in 1972
The first Black American man to reach any grand slam singles final since MaliVai Washington at Wimbledon in 1996
The fifth American man this century to reach the US Open singles final, joining Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick and Taylor Fritz
The first American man to win tour titles on hardcourt, clay and grass in the same season since Sam Querrey in 2010
Zverev is well suited for left-handed opponents due to the strength of his two-handed backhand, which allows him to counter the effects of their swinging serve out wide from the left advantage side as well as their crosscourt forehand from the same position.
There are plenty of reasons, however, for Shelton to be hopeful that things will be different in New York. He will remind himself of the fact that they have never faced each other in a grand slam tournament, where the American so often elevates his game, and particularly that the theme of this tournament has been breaking new ground in difficult match-ups.

The Falcons have picked up a turnover and taken the lead.
Running back Jaylen Warren fumbled after catching a short pass from Aaron Rodgers, with Mike Hughes forcing the ball out. Divine Deablo picked up the loose ball to give Atlanta an extra possession.
It didn’t take long for the club to take advantage of the extra opportunity, as Bijan Robinson took a short pass 23 yards to the end zone on third-and-8 to give Atlanta a 7-3 lead.
Robinson finished the first quarter with six touches. All of Cooper Rush’s completions so far have gone to Robinson.
The Steelers had previously gotten on the board with a 43-yard field goal by Chris Boswell to cap their second possession.
Lamar Jackson runs it in, Ravens lead 7-6
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson's rushing numbers were down last season, but it didn't take him long to make a play with his legs on Sunday.
Jackson sprinted five yards for a touchdown to cap Baltimore's first offensive possession of the year and the Ravens lead the Colts 7-6. Jackson scored on a designed run called by the team's new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle.
Jackson's arm was involved in the biggest offensive play of the scoring drive. He got the ball to wide receiver Zay Flowers for a 49-yard gain that moved the team just outside the end zone. That big play came on their first offensive snap and they took over near midfield thanks to Chris Moore's 42-yard kickoff return.
It was a successful start for the Doyle-Jackson partnership and they'll try to keep things rolling in Indianapolis.
‘Just making a joke’: Usain Bolt retracts claim stairs got him out of breath
Jamaican says athletes ‘loving’ Ultimate Championship
Former sprinter proposed to Kasi Bennett last month
A year ago, Usain Bolt revealed he had stopped running and got out of breath whenever he went up the stairs. But now the greatest sprinter in history has insisted he has made a lightning return to fitness after proposing last month to his long-term partner Kasi Bennett.
Bolt, who is an ambassador for the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, laughed as he told reporters that his claims about his lack of fitness in Tokyo last year had been overegged for effect. “I made a joke and you guys took it out of context,” Bolt said, with a grin.
