Tennessee softball outfielder named SEC Player of the Week

Tennessee junior softball player Sophia Knight was named SEC Player of the Week after her performance at the Green and Gold Classic in Birmingham, Alabama, hosted by UAB.

Knight, a center fielder and leadoff hitter for the Lady Vols, went 11-for-13 (.846) in four games at UAB.

She also recorded a .923 slugging percentage and two stolen bases, including stealing home against Mercer. Knight scored seven runs and hit a RBI double in a 4-for-4 performance against Southern Illinois.

This season, she has a .543 batting average, 18 runs, seven walks and 10 stolen bases. Knight has recorded four two-hit games, three three-hit games and one four-hit game in 2026 for the No. 1 ranked Lady Vols.

A Tennessee player has earned a SEC weekly honor for a third consecutive week. Karlyn Pickens and Erin Nuwer were named SEC Pitcher of the Week.

Knight is the first Lady Vol earning SEC Player of the Week honors since Rylie West on Feb. 12, 2024.

Double injury blow for Oxford United ahead of Stoke clash

Matt Bloomfield revealed a double blow for Oxford United ahead of their visit to Stoke City.

Both Jamie McDonnell and Brodie Spencer are set to miss out due to ankle injuries.

Bloomfield said: “He’s [McDonnell] gone for a scan today, so we’ll see the news of that. Spencer again has gone for a scan on his ankle.

“I don’t expect either of those boys to be available for Wednesday evening.”

Tyler Goodrham, Nik Prelec and Brian De Keersmaecker all remain out with their respective injuries.

Jin-Woo Jeon is expected to start again but Bloomfield admitted it will be unlikely that he plays the full match due to his fitness levels.

Bloomfield said: “We have to be patient with him because he’s not match fit, he’s starting games and tiring so we have to bring him off.”

Oxford are winless in their last six matches but managed a draw against Middlesbrough in their last game. Bloomfield said: “We’re definitely getting closer, the boys are getting closer to looking like the team that we want to be.”
