Infantino installs loyalist to oversee Caribbean as he splits Fifa management

Gianni Infantino has separated Fifa’s management of the Caribbean countries from the rest of Concacaf in a move widely regarded by his opponents as an attempt to split the alliance to remove him from office.

Concacaf covers North and Central America as well as the Caribbean and was previously managed as one bloc. But the Guardian has learned that the former Switzerland midfielder Gelson Fernandes, an Infantino loyalist, has been appointed as the director of member associations for the Caribbean, in addition to his position looking after Fifa’s African members.

Liverpool v Atlético Madrid, PSG v Slovan Bratislava, Chelsea v Leeds United – live

Sometimes, what a game shows is more important than what a game’s worth, and that might be so for Liverpool tonight. After a dreadful season under Arne Slot, they’ve gone into this with the same holes in the team unaddressed, an entirely new system to learn, and a manager inexperienced at elite level. It is not, therefore, surprising that they’ve made a spotty start to the season.

They do, though, boast a serious array of attacking talent that looked like it was starting to click at the weekend. Problem being, there’s a difference between looking good against Ipswich Town and looking good against even this version of Atlético Madrid, a team specifically constructed to ruin anything pleasant an opponent might attempt.

Here come Zheng and Rybakina, Zheng stepping on to court wearing headphones, not that there’s much noise to drown out yet at 11.35am New York time. Both already look extremely focused with their game faces on.

For the first time, Bills will play Canadian and American anthems before a home game

The Buffalo Bills will be opening their new home with a special welcome to their neighbors from the north.

Yes, near the shores of Lake Ontario, an American football team will play the Canadian national anthem before kickoff of a game.

The Bills have announced that both anthems will be played prior to the start of next Thursday night's showdown with the Lions. It comes at a time when tensions are high between the respectve governments over trade issues, but when the citizens of the two countries have little or no real animosity between them.

Canada has been our next-door neighbor for a very long time. And most Americans are wired to act neighborly. In this specific instance, the Bills are making a very neighborly gesture.

Still,it's just a matter of time before someone who once wanted to buy the Bills has something to say about this. In all caps. Perhaps with a dash of AI slop. Before thanking us for our attention to this matter.
