Mike Macdonald on ownership change: "We're entering a new chapter in our organization's history"
The Seahawks opened training camp on Saturday, only two weeks after the organization announced that the team would be sold to a group led by Vinod Khosla, pending league approval. Coach Mike Macdonald addressed the looming change in his first press conference of training camp. amunra-opinie.pl
“We haven't had much interaction yet, and everything is about the same as it's been," Macdonald told reporters. "Nothing's changed on our front, nor will it for the foreseeable future. So that's how we're approaching everything. We had great visits with all the folks that were here. The best way to describe my mentality is that I'm excited to get going.
"We're thankful for Jody [Allen] and the things that her and the rest of the ownership group did, especially since I've been here, it’s been fantastic and hopefully the rest of the 12s feel the same way as they should. Now we're entering a new chapter in our organization's history. That’s a cause for excitement as well.”
Macdonald said he had a brief meeting with the new owners. "You can always talk on the phone and do Zooms, but being in person is a different experience, which I definitely appreciated,” Macdonald said.
With the Khosla group ready to pay a record $9.612 billion for the Seahawks, it will be theirs to run as they see fit. They should see fit to let the organization run at it has.
It's clearly not broken; nothing needs to be fixed.
Shohei Ohtani Skips Bullpen Session Due To Left Knee Irritation
Shohei Ohtani skipped a tentatively scheduled bullpen session Saturday and Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the two-way superstar won’t throw off a mound again until his irritated left knee feels 100%. "We’re just going to kick the can," Roberts said before his team played the New York Mets. "I think like I said yesterday, we’re not going to move forward until he feels 100% confident (and) we feel 100% confident that we should do it." Ohtani hasn’t pitched in a game since July 3. But the Dodgers say his knee doesn’t bother him while batting, and the four-time MVP has remained in the starting lineup regularly. The two-time defending World Series champions began the day with the best record in the majors at 66-38 and an 11-game lead in the NL West over Arizona. Ohtani received a lubricant injection just before the All-Star break and Roberts said last weekend it would be "some time" before Ohtani makes his next appearance as a pitcher. The right-hander then threw about 30 pitches off a mound Wednesday during a bullpen session in Philadelphia, but Roberts said Ohtani felt a "little bit of regression." "It was obviously not ideal, him throwing his last bullpen and going backwards essentially," Roberts said. "So, obviously, that’s disappointing because you throw a bullpen, you continue to build up. So that was disappointing, but as far as worry, concern, we don’t have any of that." Ohtani is 8-2 with a 1.79 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings over 14 starts on the mound this season and has won his past six decisions. He entered Saturday batting .286 with 22 homers, 61 RBIs and a .920 OPS. In other injury updates, two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell made a second rehab start Friday night for Triple-A Oklahoma City. Sidelined since his season debut May 9 because of loose bodies in his pitching elbow, the left-hander threw 49 pitches and allowed one run and two hits in 2 2/3 innings. Roberts said Snell likely will progress to four innings in his third rehab outing. Star closer Edwin Diaz (right elbow surgery) will make another rehab appearance Sunday for Oklahoma City and, if all goes well, the right-hander is expected to be activated from the injured list Wednesday. Tyler Glasnow, on the 60-day IL since May 8 because of low back spasms, threw 25 pitches in one simulated inning Friday. Glasnow will pitch in another simulated game next week when the Dodgers return home and might start a rehab assignment after that. Reporting by the Associated Press.
Mike Macdonald noncommittal on S Nick Emmanwori's availability for Week 1
Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori required arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle earlier this month. Emmanwori injured the ankle during practice four days before Super Bowl LX.
He played 70 of 72 defensive snaps against the Patriots, but the ankle never bounced back in the offseason.
"It’s the ankle from the Super Bowl,” coach Mike Macdonald said Saturday, via Gregg Bell of The News Tribune. “I guess the best way to describe it is, it’s something he’s been dealing with since the Super Bowl. He was able to perform, was able to train and do some things in the offseason program. But [he] just got to the point where it was the best for him, really just best for him in the long term, just go get it fixed. So that’s what he all decided to do. “Really, [it’s] the best for him for now and the foreseeable future, the rest of his career.”
Macdonald was noncommittal about Emmanwori's return. He was asked multiple times whether he expects Emmanwori to play in the season opener without a definitive answer.
“I don’t know,” Macdonald said. “I mean, could he play in the opener? Sure.”
Emmanwori is expected back before the start of the season, Bell reports, but Macdonald wants to avoid a timeline so as not to pressure Emmanwori to rush back.
Emmanwori is on the active/physically unable to perform list.
