Real Madrid player takes responsibility for Osasuna defeat

Real Madrid player takes responsibility for Osasuna defeat

Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos has taken the blame for their loss to Osasuna on Saturday evening. The 29-year-old took the blame squarely on his shoulders after giving the ball away in the lead up to the winning goal for Los Rojillo.

Ceballos was sent on with seven minutes remaining by Alvaro Arbeloa to look for a winner at El Sadar. However Ceballos played a loose pass that was intercepted in stoppage time, and eventually ended up with Raul Garcia de Haro finishing between Raul Asencio and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Following the match, Ceballos put out a message on social media, noting ‘I assume my responsibility’.

Ceballos ruled out with injury

The unfortunate part is that Ceballos will not have a chance to make ammends in the near future. The ex-Betis and Arsenal man has been ruled out with a hamstring tear that could keep him out until April in the worst of cases. It leaves Arbeloa somewhat short of resources in the middle of the pitch, with Jude Bellingham also out of action.

Arbeloa’s explanations after Osasuna

Beyond introducing Ceballos, Arbeloa has come in for heavy criticism for his changes at El Sadar, taking of Fede Valverde following his excellent assist. After the match he declared that the Uruguayan had been playing through injury for some time, and he did not want to risk him.

The Real Madrid manager also noted that the referee might have given a foul for his side before Ceballos gave the ball away – although Los Blancos did regain possession again after that, dictating a new phase of play. In his view, Real Madrid failed to move the ball with the necessary tempo to break Osasuna down too. On Wednesday, Real Madrid are back in action against Benfica in the return leg of their Champions League play-off.

2026 NFL draft: NFL.com mock has new pick for Jets at No. 2 overall

NFL.com released an early offseason mock for the upcoming 2026 draft and another new name has been offered at the No 2 selection held by the New York Jets.

With no clear-cut quarterback option for the New York Jets at the second pick, a defender could be the best option for a team that traded two star defenders last season in Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams.

Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese is the most-popular projected player to head to New York via that second slot, but a recent NFL.com mock draft makes the case for David Bailey.

The pass rusher from Texas Tech is the first Round 1 selection by the Jets in the recent predictions from the outlet. The Green and White also hold the No. 16 pick in Round 1 as well.

Here are the breakdowns for the Jets two first round picks in NFL.com's latest 2026 mock:

Round 1, pick No. 2: Texas Tech EDGE David Bailey

While the No. 1 overall pick's essentially a foregone conclusion, No. 2 is anything but. That said, this explosive edge rusher presumably will receive serious consideration. In Aaron Glenn’s debut season as head coach, the Jets finished 31st in sacks with just 26, the franchise’s lowest total of this millennium. Meanwhile, Bailey just tied for the FBS lead with 14.5 sacks.

Round 1, pick 16: USC WR Makai Lemon

Lemon has drawn a lot of comparisons to fellow USC product Amon-Ra St. Brown, someone Aaron Glenn is quite familiar with. St. Brown, of course, has served as one of the true culture-setters in Detroit’s inspiring rise from decades of despair. Glenn’s trying to replicate that transformation with the long-suffering Jets, so it tracks that he'd grab a hard-nosed playmaker to complement talented WR1 Garrett Wilson.

Raffaele Palladino reveals a new injury problem forcing changes for Atalanta against Napoli, insisting they will ‘think about the Champions League from tomorrow.’

It kicks off at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo at 14.00 GMT (15.00 CET).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s Serie A games on the Liveblog.

There are a few changes to the starting XI, as rotation is necessary following the midweek Champions League play-off in Germany.

“Ederson had a muscular issue in training yesterday, he worked with the group, but I don’t want to risk doing any further damage,” Palladino told DAZN Italia.

“He wanted to be here, but I preferred not to take risks, as there are so many more games coming up. I am sure Mario Pasalic will replace him very well.

“Kamaldeen Sulemana starts today, because he trained well and always proved himself when participating.”

La Dea have been surging up the standings since Palladino took over from Ivan Juric in November 2025, and his debut was the 3-1 defeat to Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

They also set up a Coppa Italia semi-final with Lazio, but their Champions League participation is at risk after the 2-0 play-off loss to Borussia Dortmund.

“I am focusing on this match, which is very important for us, and we can think about the Champions League from tomorrow,” insisted Palladino.

“We’ve got to think today about a situation where every point is worth double, but we also want to prove ourselves against a strong opponent on our home turf.”

The second leg is coming up on Wednesday, with Charles De Ketelaere and Giacomo Raspadori still out of action.

Napoli also have a long absentee list, but start Alisson Santos and bring Rasmus Hojlund back to Bergamo, where his career really took off.

“There are many details that are important in these matches, as if you press Napoli high, they will just pierce your defence with vertical balls,” added Palladino.

“They have rapid wing-backs, so if you sit back and wait for them, they’ll get around you and dominate possession. We must have the perfect performance and show hunger.

“Napoli won the Scudetto last season, so they are accustomed to these games. I can’t wait for it to start.”

Serie A | Genoa 3-0 Torino: Ilkhan red could put Baroni in trouble

Marco Baroni’s job is under increasing threat after a disappointing 3-0 loss away against Genoa in Serie A on Sunday afternoon after goals from Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Caleb Ekuban and Junior Messias after a costly Emirhan Ilkhan sending off in the first half.

Just three points separated the two sides, who were ranked in 14th and 15th place in the Serie A table ahead of kick-off. Genoa made just two changes to their starting line-up, swapping Ekuuban and Tommaso Baldanzi in for Vitinha and Messias, while Torino made five alterations, introducing Enzo Ebosse, Valentino Lazaro, Emirhan Ilkhan, Rafael Obrador and Sandro Kulenovic to their XI.

Genoa broke the deadlock midway through the first period when Ekuban got a fortunate touch off Enzo Ebosse, which sent him through into the right hand side of the area. His shot was parried by Alberto Paleari and Norton-Cuffy was on-hand to finish off the rebound in the middle of the box.

Genoa’s second was not too dissimilar to their first. They again broke down the right flank, this time with Baldanzi, whose shot was parried into the path of Ekuban, who just had to stick his leg out to tap home the rebound from point-blank range.

Torino were left frustrated when they had a penalty appeal waved away just after the 40th minute. They were adamant that Ekuuban had handled the ball in the area from a corner, but there was no spot kick awarded despite a lengthy VAR check.

Things went from bad to worse before the interval for Torino, as Ilhan was shown a straight red card for a lunge on Lorenzo Colombo inside the centre circle.

Replays showed that his studs were up, his challenge was high on Colombo’s calf and that the referee was correct in his decision to send the Granata midfielder off for dangerous play.

Daniele De Rossi’s side wrapped up the three points after a disastrous slip on the ball from Torino defender Marcus Holmgren Pedersen in his own half. Second-half substitute Junior Messisas pounced, found himself one-on-one and made no mistake in front of goal from close range.

This result means that Genoa and Torino have swapped positions in the Serie A table, both now sitting level on points on 27. Reports from Tuttosport suggest that Baroni’s job could not be under serious threat after picking up just four points from the last five matches.
