Real Oviedo has confirmed that Celtic is nearing a deal for Haissem Hassan, who has reportedly agreed to a four-year contract.

According to Scottish outlet CeltsAreHere, the Spanish club directly verified claims surrounding the negotiations, including an overall package valued at around €11 million.

The precise structure was initially unclear, but Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph subsequently placed Celtic’s guaranteed offer at approximately €7 million, rising to about €10.5 million if all bonuses are achieved.

However, he stressed that the clubs had not yet reached a complete agreement. Both reports indicate confidence that the remaining points can be resolved.

Celtic’s latest proposal represents a substantial increase on their opening approach.

KingFut reported in July that the Scottish champions had offered approximately €4 million for the 24-year-old following his performances with Egypt at the World Cup.

Real Oviedo rejected that bid and directed interested clubs towards the winger’s release clause. Celtic were then expected to return with an improved offer worth around €8 million.

The reported €10.5 million maximum package would bring Celtic considerably closer to Oviedo’s valuation. Hassan’s release clause fell from €18 million to €12 million following Oviedo’s relegation from La Liga

Villarreal are also entitled to 40% of the transfer proceeds under the agreement that took Hassan to Oviedo in 2024, increasing the Spanish club’s incentive to maximise the fee.

Hassan has reportedly accepted Celtic’s four-year proposal and wants to complete the move. The winger previously rejected a lucrative five-year offer from an unnamed Saudi Pro League club because he preferred to continue his career in Europe.

Marseille were also linked with Hassan after Celtic’s opening bid was rejected.

The winger joined Oviedo permanently from Villarreal in August 2024 and signed a contract running until June 2027. He made 37 La Liga appearances last season, providing three assists as Oviedo suffered relegation.

His profile rose further during Egypt’s World Cup campaign, particularly against Argentina in the round of 16. Hassan created Egypt’s second goal and had an individual effort disallowed during the 3-2 defeat.

Celtic and Oviedo must now settle the remaining contractual details before Hassan can travel to Glasgow, undergo his medical and formally complete the transfer.

Arlington, United States: Japan scored an 88th-minute equaliser as they twice fought back to rescue a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in front of 69,285 in Texas on Sunday to open their World Cup campaigns.

A match that had bubbled away in the first period sparked into life in the second half.

Netherlands skipper Virgil van Dijk scored with a fine header, only for Keito Nakamura to quickly level, before winger Crysencio Summerville's delicious curled finish into the bottom corner just after the hour.

The Dutch looked like they would hold on, but Japan levelled at the death with Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada credited with the goal after a deflection.

Sweden face Tunisia in a competitive-looking Group F later Sunday.

Japan and the Netherlands are in North America missing key players through injury, but on paper this was still one of the more attractive fixtures in the group stage.

Both have been touted as dark horses capable of going far at the tournament -- the Dutch have been runners-up three times whereas Japan have never gone beyond the last 16.

The Netherlands made a confident start and nearly took the lead after three minutes, Donyell Malen allowed to swivel inside the box and forcing a smart save from Zion Suzuki.

The impressive air-conditioned arena is usually home to the Dallas Cowboys, and at the hydration break the NFL team's cheerleaders were shown on the massive screen hanging over the pitch performing one of their routines.

The stoppage seemed to help Ronald Koeman's side and Roma forward Malen again worked Suzuki with a header from a corner, then Cody Gakpo fired wildly over the bar.

Japan's fans, who had hardly stopped singing and outnumbered the Dutch contingent, were briefly silenced.

The first real chance for Hajime Moriyasu's team came a few minutes before the break when a cross evaded the backtracking Summerville but Nakamura pulled his low effort wide.

A scrappy finish by John McGinn allowed Scotland to mark their return to the World Cup after a 28-year absence with a nervy 1-0 win over outsiders Haiti on Saturday.

Aston Villa captain McGinn fired in with the aid of a deflection just before the half-hour mark at the Gillette Stadium just outside Boston, which was filled to its 64,000 capacity with a majority of Scottish fans.

They have travelled to the United States in large numbers to follow Scotland's first World Cup campaign since 1998, and were able to celebrate a rare victory at the tournament as they go top of Group C.

It is Scotland's first win at a World Cup since a 2-1 defeat of Sweden in Italy in 1990, and a first victory at any major tournament in 30 years, since Euro 96.

Steve Clarke's team are bidding to make history by reaching the knockout stages, something Scotland have never done at the World Cup.

They had to hang on grimly at the end, but the victory puts them on course to get to the last 32, especially as the eight best third-placed sides will go through from the group stage.

Haiti are one of the lowest-ranked sides at the tournament, at 84th in the world, and Scotland knew the importance of beating the Caribbean nation with tougher tests to come.

They play Morocco at the same stadium in their next game on Friday before heading to Miami to take on Brazil. Morocco and Brazil drew 1-1 in Saturday's other Group C encounter in New Jersey.

Haiti's achievement in getting to the World Cup is one of the most inspiring stories of this tournament, given the turmoil in the country which prevented the team playing qualifiers at home.

McTominay hits post

Their line-up included midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and striker Wilson Isidor, both of whom featured regularly in the English Premier League this season.

But there is greater depth in the Scotland side, with the likes of McGinn, skipper Andy Robertson and Scott McTominay.

The Napoli attacking midfielder, scorer of an iconic overhead kick in the decisive win over Denmark which sealed qualification, was fit to start this game after shaking off a stomach bug.

McTominay almost gave a Scotland team playing in salmon pink the lead in the 17th minute, when he arrived at the edge of the area to crash a shot off the post from a Ben Gannon-Doak lay-off.

They were unable to build on that, as Haiti forced them back and stepped up the pressure in the closing stages as they sought to avoid defeat in a World Cup game for the first time.

French-born Ruben Providence was a regular threat on the wing and imposing centre-forward Frantzdy Pierrot almost equalised in the 85th minute, but his towering header went just wide.

Haiti, who lost all three games in their only previous World Cup appearance in 1974, now face Brazil next in Philadelphia.
