Juventus signs German striker Woltemade on loan from Newcastle

Rome: Juventus announced on Tuesday that it had signed the German striker Nick Woltemade on a season-long loan from Newcastle United of the English Premier League. turconews.click

In a statement, Juventus described Woltemade as a significant addition, citing his steady rise in football and the experience he has gained at Werder Bremen in 2020, followed by a two-season loan to Swedish club IF Elfsborg.

He moved to Stuttgart in 2024 as a replacement for the Canadian forward Jonathan David, who joined Atletico Madrid. Woltemade then joined Newcastle last year, where he made 53 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.

Al Ahly have extended goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir’s contract until 2029 after resolving a dispute over a proposed release clause.

The club announced the renewal after Mostafa Shobeir signed the agreement following the team’s training session.

The agreement covers the remaining season on his previous contract and adds another two campaigns, keeping the keeper at Al Ahly through 2029.

According to sources, Shobeir will receive an annual base salary of EGP25 million. Performance and trophy-related incentives could add another EGP10 million. The full annual package could consequently reach EGP35 million.

The new contract also regulates Shobeir’s commercial rights, in which he will receive 60% of advertising deals secured through Al Ahly’s football company.

Shobeir will retain 70% of revenue from deals that reach him directly, with Al Ahly receiving the remaining 30%.

The contract contains no release clause. The Cairo giants refused to include a provision allowing another club to sign the goalkeeper without negotiating directly with them.

As KingFut previously reported, Shobeir’s representatives requested a $3 million release clause during negotiations.

Al Ahly rejected the proposal as part of their policy against placing release clauses in contracts for key players. The club followed the same approach during other recent renewal talks.

However, both parties are said to have reached an understanding regarding any suitable future offer from abroad.

The renewal followed reported European interest in the Egypt international. Al Ahly reportedly rejected an offer worth about $2 million from Italian side Como in August.

The 26-year-old has made 70 senior appearances for Al Ahly, recording 38 clean sheets and conceding 44 goals. Shobeir will continue competing with Mohamed El Shenawy and Hamza Alaa for the starting position.

New York, USA: Coco Gauff opened her 2026 US Open campaign with a solid straight-set win over Turkey's Zeynep Sonmez that showcased her improved serve.

The fourth-seeded Gauff, who won the New York Grand Slam in 2023, was broken only once to top the 53rd-ranked Sonmez 6-3, 6-4 in a hard-hitting battle fought mostly from the baseline.

"It's incredible to be back on this court," an exuberant Gauff told the on-court interviewer. "I love playing in this atmosphere."

Gauff, whose service woes last year prompted a dramatic coaching change days before the tournament and contributed to a fourth round exit, came into Flushing Meadows this time feeling much better about the stroke, having won the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati this month.

Gauff said she had worked make the toss more consistent under the tutelage of biomechanics expert Gavin Macmillan, who previously helped Aryna Sabalenka retool her serve, improvements that helped the Belarussian rise to number one.

"It's been a gradual change with the serve," Gauff said. "Slowly it's adapting to maybe the way it should look."

The American star blazed through the opening set without facing a break point, with Sonmez often unable to return Gauff's serve or offering only a weak reply that could be batted off easily.

Gauff broke early in the second set, but the Turkish player raised the level of her game with heavy ground strokes and sneaky forays to the net to finish points with deft volleys.

Sonmez broke back for 2-2 and briefly took the lead.

But at 2-3, Gauff fought off multiple break points in a lengthy game that the American eventually nabbed with another big serve.

Gauff called the hold for 3-3 as "real important".

"I like to challenge my opponent to let them keep up the level the whole match, and if they do, you know I clap my hands and I walk off court with my head held high," Gauff said. "But I was able to settle down."

Gauff has drawn confidence "just knowing that it does take a lot maybe to break me," she told reporters, saying of the key service game in the second set, "I knew if I could hold that game, I felt confident breaking the next game."
