Eagles Question of the Day:
In case you missed it, we’ve been asking BGN readers where they live. As you can see from the results, we have a widespread audience. Why do you think Eagles fans that aren’t in Philly seem to really flock here? Seems like we get more non-locals than locals. Head over to The Feed and weigh in with your answer and explanation!
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
5 free agent linebackers Cowboys should pursue after Logan Wilson’s release – Blogging The Boys
Nakobe Dean: This free agent fit will be postulated many more times between now and when the market opens, and it became a popular projection the moment Christian Parker was hired. It makes plenty of sense, too: Nakobe Dean has spent the past two seasons playing for Parker and Vic Fangio in Philadelphia. The former Georgia star has both a national championship and a Super Bowl ring and he knows the system very well. It’s easy to see why the Cowboys would be interested, and even be considered frontrunners, for Dean’s services. On the other hand, there may be some reason for caution. Dean fell in the draft due to injury concerns, and he’s played in just 47 of a possible 68 games in his career, starting just 27 of them. He looked great in 2024, his one year as the full-time starter, but even then Dean’s season was cut short with a torn patellar tendon. The Cowboys have never shied away from taking chances on players with injury histories, and Dean’s familiarity with Parker may provide extra comfort in the gamble. But it has to be acknowledged that this signing would, indeed, be a gamble.
A Deep Dive Into the NFL Salary Cap and Howie Roseman’s Eagles Philosophy – BGN
What Jimbo delivered was genuinely illuminating to me. The Eagles’ salary cap situation is not a mystery. It is a deliberately constructed, carefully crafted strategy built on an understanding of inflation, optionality, and the long-term trajectory of the NFL’s finances. It requires an owner willing to spend cash now for cap benefits later. It requires a GM who has spent decades mastering its mechanics. And it requires the kind of institutional trust between owner and front office that is genuinely rare in professional sports. The next time someone tells you the Eagles are in cap hell, ask them if they’ve accounted for void year acceleration, rollover cap, and cash spending over the cap. I’d be interested to hear their response…
Tush push ban: Why you shouldn’t expect NFL rule change in the 2026 offseason – SB Nation
Interestingly enough, while the Tush Push remained in effect for the 2025 season, the Eagles were not the team that benefited most from the play. League-wide, there were more tush pushes in 2025 (112) than in 2024, when there were 101. And while Philadelphia used the play more than any other team, running it 27 times, Overall, the NFL saw slightly more tush pushes in 2025 (112) than in 2024 (101). The Eagles (33) and Bills (27) by far led the league in attempts, according to TushPush.fyi — what an incredible idea for a website, by the way — but Philadelphia’s conversion rate on those plays was just 64%, a far cry from their success rate during their Super Bowl run.
Three free agents who make sense for the Eagles, version 2.0 – PhillyVoice
There are mixed reviews of Tyler Steen’s 2025 season. Personally, I thought he was a perfectly acceptable NFL starter, and he’s young enough to assume he’ll continue to grow. But if the Eagles wanted to give Steen some competition, James Daniels would be a worthy challenger. But also, Daniels would provide some insurance on the interior in case Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson continue to struggle with their various injuries.
Eagles 2026 NFL combine primer: Nick Sirianni’s ‘win-now’ staff, A.J. Brown watch, positional needs – The Athletic
Another young and inexperienced offensive staff. The new hires tasked with fixing a stagnated system arrive with a side order of skepticism. Mannion, 33, has two seasons of coaching experience and did not call plays or lead game plans in Green Bay. Mahaffey, 38, who is replacing Stoutland as run game coordinator, spent the past two seasons coaching wide receivers and was last directly involved with interior blocking in 2023 — as an assistant offensive line coach. Kuper, 43, has the most experience, but the Vikings, for whom he first coached the offensive line full-time, did not retain him when his contract expired. The Eagles clearly collected concepts by hiring the trio, not recent success. How successful will they be in implementing principles that stem from the Mike Shanahan coaching tree? Recent history does not make the Mannion hire inspiring. Sirianni’s last two hirings of first-time NFL coordinators ended in firings (Patullo in 2025, Brian Johnson in 2023). What suggests Mannion will experience richer success?
Top Eagles storylines heading into 2026 NFL Combine – NBCSP
Any A.J. Brown movement? We heard from A.J. Brown during Super Bowl week and he didn’t sound like a guy who wanted to be traded. Take that how you will. But it was clearly a frustrating season for Brown in 2025 and he reportedly asked for a trade multiple times throughout the season. So it’s fair to wonder what Brown’s future holds and whether or not he’ll be on the team in 2026. Trades can’t actually happen until the new league year begins next month but every GM in the NFL will be in Indianapolis so conversations might start to flow. We might start to hear more whispers about the Brown situation the week.
2026 NFL free agency: Best players available on offense – ESPN
Tier 3: Capable starters. Dallas Goedert is 31 and hasn’t topped 600 receiving yards in a campaign since 2022, but he was really the only Eagles player who benefited from Kevin Patullo’s ascension into the offensive coordinator role in 2025. Patullo seemingly got Goedert wide open on a vertical route up the seam for a big gain each week and schemed up 11 touchdowns for the veteran tight end, more than double his career high. Teams obviously can’t count on that sort of red zone performance again, but Goedert is aging relatively gracefully as far as tight ends go.
Daily Slop – 22 Feb 26 – David Harrison: Injury settlement will reduce Commanders’ salary cap savings when Marshon Lattimore is released – Hogs Haven
“Uncertainty remains over Brian Johnson’s future with Commanders — The former Eagles offensive coordinator drew an interview with the Denver Broncos during the early stages of their search for a new offensive coordinator, but that would not materialize into anything after head coach Sean Payton opted to promoted Davis Webb into the role. While it closed the door on the chance for Johnson to head to the AFC for the first time in his career, that hasn’t materialized into a finalized decision to remain with the Commanders in 2026. And according to ESPN’s John Keim, Johnson has yet to officially inform the Commanders of his final decision for 2026. “Washington has allowed Johnson to seek other opportunities if that’s what he wants,” Keim said on his latest podcast.
NY Giants free agency 2026: A potential running mate for Dexter Lawrence – Big Blue View
The Giants have drafted D.J. Davidson, Jordon Riley, and Darius Alexander during Schoen’s tenure as GM. They have signed free agents A’Shawn Robinson, Rakeem Nunez-Roches, Justin Ellis, and Roy Robertson-Harris. None have been more than adequate rotational players. Enter John Franklin-Myers. Heading into his age 30 season, the 2018 fourth-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams has 14.5 sacks for the Denver Broncos the past two seasons, and 34.0 in his seven-year career.
