ALTOONA, Pa. – Chestnut Ridge sisters Violette Lasure and Juliet Alt wrestled all season at 148 and 155 pounds, respectively.
When it came to the postseason, though, Lasure moved up to 155 and Alt dropped to 148.
The result in the girls District 5-6-9 subregional tournament Saturday at Altoona Fieldhouse was pretty much the same as the regular season. They were both dominating.
Two-time state champ Lasure won her third subregional title, recording three first-period falls at 155, including a pin of Clearfield’s Makayla Taylor in 1:30 during the final, and was voted the outstanding wrestler.
Returning state champ Alt won the 148-pound title with a technical fall and two falls, including a pin of Philipsburg-Osceola’s Kendyl Meersand in 3:10 during the final. It was her first subregional title after finishing second in 2025.
“We just switched so that I would win another state championship at a different weight class,” Lasure said. “The first year, I won it at 142. The next year was at 148, and then I won at 155 this year.”
“We’ve kind of been thinking about it all year,” Alt said. “We’re both high-level athletes. It’s pretty cool to win multiple weight classes at states. I won at 155 last year, so I’ll try 148 this year. Maybe a new weight class next year, you never know.”
Is Lasure moving up 15 pounds to 170 next year?
“Maybe,” Lasure said laughing, "we’ll see.”
Six girls from The Tribune-Democrat’s coverage area won titles.
Greater Johnstown’s Sayona Harris-Haye captured her second subregional title in her third finals appearance with a pin of Huntingdon’s Noelle Rasmovicz in the 136-pound final.
“I was like, if I don’t get this pin, I don’t know what else I would do,” Harris-Haye said.
Bedford’s Mylah Steinbuch earned her third subregional title with a pin of Philipsburg-Osceola’s Daisy Glessner at 4:23 in the 235-pound final.
Steinbuch’s freshman teammate, Aliza Brambley, claimed the 106-pound title by knocking off Northern Bedford County’s top-seeded Rachel Clouse, 9-4.
United’s Chloe Stiles (124) won her second straight subegional title with a 9-0 major decision over Somerset’s Adalyn Boburchock.
Alt lost in the 2025 subregional final to Northern Bedford County’s Raegan Snider 3-2 in the ultimate tiebreaker. Alt then beat Snider in the Central Regional final and state title bout.
“I definitely came in here with a goal to win considering last year, I fell short in the finals,” Alt said. “It’s all in preparation for states. I kind of got my redemption last year in the state finals.
“My sister and I switched weight classes, so the girls were lighter, and I felt pretty quick and stronger than those girls. I’m obviously a pretty big 148.”
Harris-Haye went 4-0, recording three falls and a technical fall.
“I improved from last year,” Harris-Haye said. “I was more together, more focused. I think it’s from more practice and going the extra mile after practice. I’m focused on getting to the (state) finals.”
“I think she definitely wrestled tough,” Greater Johnstown coach Quenteen Robinson said. “We’re going to continue to improve, but she’s a hard worker and I’m proud of her.”
Steinbuch had falls in both of her bouts. She was actually losing 4-3 when she took Glessner down and pinned her.
Stiles, a John Carroll University recruit, went 3-0 and had two falls to get to the final, while Boburchock had two falls. In the final, Stiles broke a scoreless tie in the second period with a reversal and four nearfall points. She added a takedown of Boburchock in the third period.
“It felt really good to do it again,” Stiles said. “I think it was better the second time because my shoe didn’t come untied today. I did get some stall calls for that. I think I wrestled pretty well. I wrestled her earlier in the season and I only beat her by four points, so I feel like I improved.”
The third-seeded Brambley rolled through the tournament with two falls, a major decision and the win over Clouse. Brambley got a takedown of Clouse in the first period, but Clouse got an escape to make it 3-1.
Brambley blew it open with a reversal and four-point nearfall in the third period.
Penn Cambria’s Bethany Watt (fourth, 136) and Laura Farabaugh (fifth, 130), Bedford’s Mariah Hershberger (third, 100), Meyersdale’s Abbey Ickes (fourth, 142) and North Star’s Laikyn Paxton (third 170) each placed in the top five to qualify for the Central Regional Feb. 28 at Milton High School.
North Star’s Alyssa Kostyk (142) and Bedford’s Emma Bohn (170) finished sixth.
United’s Addison Hill could be a qualifier. In some odd circumstances, her fifth-place 136-pound bout against Johnsonburg’s Brooke Santoro has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Philipsburg-Osceola. Santoro had already wrestled six bouts, which is the limit for one day under PIAA rules.
Tisinger finishes fourth
Greater Johnstown’s Paul Tisinger finished in fourth place at 215 pounds in the boys District 6 Class 3a tournament. Only the top three at every weight class advanced to next week’s West Regional at Canon-McMillan.
Tisinger, who was the only Trojan to reach the consolation finals, went 2-2 with a decision and a pin. He was pinned by Altoona’s Mike Colyer in 1:55 during their third-place bout.
