Are Liverpool moving on from Salah-centric football? Carragher explains

Jamie Carragher said Liverpool are no longer built only around Mohamed Salah after their 1-0 league win over Nottingham Forest.

Carragher’s view on Liverpool’s new balance

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the team have moved away from depending on Mohamed Salah as their main attacking solution.

Speaking on Sky Sports before Liverpool’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest, Carragher shared his thoughts on how the team has changed this season.

Liverpool went on to win the game 1-0 in round 27.

Salah’s role has changed

Salah started the match but was substituted in the 77 minute ending the game without a goal or assist. Carragher said that while Salah remains important, his recent numbers show different version of the player.

He pointed out that Salah has scored two goal in his last seven match, one from penalty and one from free kick. According to Carragher, this is not the same Salah Liverpool fans were used to in previous seasons.

Carragher also noted that before Salah left for the Africa Cup of Nations, he was not always regular starter. Since returning, he has started home matches and several away games but the team itself now looks more settled.

More quality in attack

Carragher explained that Liverpool’s attacking structure has changed. He said the team now focuses more on defensive balance and no longer plays in a way where everything goes through Salah.

According to him, Liverpool now have more attacking quality mentioning Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike as examples. With more options up front, Liverpool are no longer limited to passing the ball only to Salah.

He added that last season Salah played alongside attackers who were not at his level which forced the team to rely heavily on him. This season, Carragher feels the responsibility is shared.
