When the chips are down, few managers can bank on his players to deliver more than Phil Parkinson can.
His Wrexham side went 3-2 down to automatic promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town shortly after half time at Stok Cae Ras, but remarkably scored a further three goals to win 5-3.
Crucially, it was a victory - Wrexham's first at home in the league in 2026 - that lifted the Red Dragons back up to sixth in the Championship table, and one that produced five different goal scorers.
"The magnitude of the effort and the commitment the lads have given us today, if ever there is a game our supporters should be proud of their team, it was today," Parkinson said.
Wrexham twice went ahead in what was a frenetic first half in north Wales as Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass both netted.
However, the class within Ipswich's ranks shone through as they levelled on both occasions, firstly through Anis Mehmeti and then Ivan Azon.
When centre-back Cedric Kipre fired beyond Arthur Okonkwo within two minutes of the restart, the 1,288-strong contingent of Ipswich fans in the away end could have been forgiven for feeling they were on course for a 16th league win of the campaign.
But Wrexham had other ideas.
George Thomason - whose heart Parkinson described as "immense" - netted his first goal for the club to level the match.
Just 15 minutes after Callum Doyle was, according to Parkinson, fortunate not to be "knocked clean out" by goalkeeper Christian Walton, the defender scored his first home goal for the club since joining from Manchester City in the summer.
And the final word was left to Nathan Broadhead - the man who left Portman Road to re-join Wrexham for a club record fee last summer.
Goal scorer Doyle spoke about being "proud" of his team-mates.
And victory means the Red Dragons go into Tuesday night's contest with Portsmouth (19:45 GMT) in north Wales in the play-off places once again, the perfect reward for coming out on top in a true Championship thriller.
"We're pleased with that (returning to the top six). We've got a big game on Tuesday and I can't wait," added Parkinson.
"It's like I keep saying, we're just enjoying the ride.
"In this division we've played Ipswich three times now, they're a good side. They've got a great manager, a really good side.
"I think if the bookies would have put all the factors together today, Ipswich making 10 changes, the freshness of coming up, they'd have probably been favourites and we've overturned that with sheer commitment, honesty and endeavour."
