The Los Angeles Rams went 12-5 in 2025 and won two playoff games before falling to the eventual Super Bowl champions 31-27 in the NFC Championship Game at Lumen Field.
Now, Los Angeles has turned the page to the offseason and to roster construction for 2026 and beyond. With that, they'll have to decide the fate of their pending free agents.
Among those set to hit the market is cornerback Cobie Durant. Let's take a look at the choice Sean McVay and Les Snead will have to make regarding Durant in the coming weeks.
Cobie Durant 2025 season recap
After three seasons seeing his snap count rise, Durant played a career-high 819 defensive snaps (73%) in 2025 while starting 15 of the 17 games he played in. He finished the regular season with 40 tackles, seven passes defensed, three interceptions and a fumble recovery.
In the playoffs, he recorded three more interceptions, bringing him to four in his postseason career and putting him in a tie for the second most in Rams' playoff history.
Potential replacements for Cobie Durant
If Durant were to leave in free agency, the Rams could have Emmanuel Forbes, Darious Williams and Quentin Lake as starting cornerbacks that are already on the roster, with Josh Wallace, Camp Lampkin and Alex Johnson serving as backups.
However, they could look to sign a free agent to fill the starting role, such as Alontae Taylor, Jaylen Watson or Nahshon Wright.
What contract could Cobie Durant receive as a free agent?
Durant made $3.53 million in 2025 on the final year of his rookie deal. He'll likely be in for a big payday this offseason, probably making around $8 million to $12 million per season on a multi-year contract.
Should the Rams re-sign Cobie Durant?
With the Rams possibly losing Ahkello Witherspoon, Kam Curl and Roger McCreary this offseason, adding Durant's departure to that list would mean Los Angeles would be turning over a lot of their secondary.
Re-signing Durant should be a priority if the deal is reasonable. However, if they are targeting a top cornerback in the 2026 NFL draft with one of their two first-round picks, moving on from Durant would be more understandable.
