The Denver Broncos need to look at each of their major offensive positions this offseason and see if an upgrade can be found. Would New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara be considered an upgrade?

Many fans would agree that Kamara's best days in the NFL are behind him. But if anyone can get the most out of what he might have left, it might be Sean Payton, his former head coach and the man who drafted him.

The Broncos will continue to be connected to Kamara because of Payton, but Kamara has always maintained that he wants to be a Saint for life. Could the Saints move on from the 30-year-old running back?

Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report predicts that the Broncos could get Kamara this offseason for next to nothing. In return, the Broncos would send the Saints their seventh-round pick (No. 247 overall) in the upcoming NFL draft.

"There's something to be said for Alvin Kamara finishing out his career as a Saint. It's not often we see a player have a 10-year career with the same team in the league anymore.

There's also something to be said for Kamara reuniting with former head coach Sean Payton for another ride at a championship.

The Saints are positioned to move on from Kamara. The 30-year-old back posted under 1,000 total yards (657) for the first time in his career. However, he still provided value as a pass catching option out of the backfield.

Payton has his lead back in R.J. Harvey. He could get creative in how he incorporates his veteran back as Kamara extends his shelf life as a complementary piece in an offense that still needs weapons", wrote Ballentine.

Alvin Kamara to the Broncos could still make some sense

This is an acquisition that has been discussed in Broncos circles since the day Payton was hired as the team's new head coach. The Saints are in rebuild mode and having a 30-year-old running back (31 in July) as their best option at that position doesn't make a lot of sense.

What could make sense would be for the Broncos to make this move and add him to the backfield along with RJ Harvey. That could then allow the team to re-sign J.K. Dobbins on the cheap and create a three-headed monster in the backfield that might be able to make some noise, even if Dobbins were to suffer another injury.

If the Broncos had Kamara in the same situation they were in this past season, they could have leaned on his experience to help them run the ball down the stretch. Kamara's legs should still be good for some situational carries in high-pressure situations and he has always been one of the best receivers out of the backfield in the league.

Kamara should be open to this idea if he wants to finish his career on a high note. He would have the chance to come to a contender and be put to the best use he possibly can at this stage in his career by his former coach.

And if the Broncos can truly get him for nothing more than a dart-throw seventh-rounder, it should be an easy call to make.
