Host nation Italy grabbed gold and silver in ski cross on the final day of Olympic freestyle skiing on Saturday while the United States clinched back-to-back aerials mixed team titles.

Former world champion Simone Deromedis got ski cross gold and Federico Tomasoni silver for Italy's first ever Games medals in the discipline, which they celebrated wildly.

Switzerland's Alex Fiva added bronze to his silver from 2022.

Deromedis labelled his success "madness" but also admitted that it all still has to sink in. "For now, I feel like I just won a race."

He promised an "open bar for everyone" for the day - following up on women's winner Daniela Maier of Germany longing for "litres of Aperol" the previous day.

Swiss Ryan Regaz - the 2022 gold medallist - missed the big final as he was disqualified for obstructing German skier Tim Hronek, who lost his chance of making the final in the incident and eventually finished sixth.

Earlier, Chris Lillis, who was also part of the 2022 team, clinched aerials gold for the US team together with Kaila Kuhn and Connor Curren with a final tally of 325.35 points.

Switzerland were distant silver medallists with 296.91. China, boasting individual event winners Xu Mengtao and Wang Xindi, took the bronze with 279.68.

Lillis made up for a disappointing individual event, in which he came eighth, and said that the team competition is a very different story having also won the world title in 2023 and 2025.

"The only thing I'll say about the team event is we literally can't lose. It's impossible," he said.

“The thing that makes the US so special is that we live and jump for each other, and I think that’s something that in an individual sport a lot of teams do struggle with. Connor's like a little brother to me, Kaila, same way, like family, and we jump for each other."

The mixed team consists of two men and one woman. The top four teams from seven in the first round contested the final round, with Australia missing the medals in fourth.

The remaining freestyle medal event is the women's halfpipe later on Saturday.
