One of Canada’s top medal contenders won’t be able to compete for a spot on the podium at Milano Cortina 2026.
Cassie Sharpe suffered a scary injury in qualifying for the women’s halfpipe on Thursday, and was not cleared to compete in Saturday’s final, the Canadian Olympic Committee said.
“After a brief precautionary stay in the hospital, Cassie has been released and is back in the Athlete Village,” the COC said in a statement Saturday.
“She has unfortunately not been cleared by COC and Freestyle Canada medical staff to participate in finals tonight. We are sending Cassie and her family well wishes and she is grateful for all of the support.”

Sharpe waved to the crowd she was removed from the hill.
The Canadian lost consciousness briefly but is currently in stable condition, Team Canada confirmed.
She had qualified for the 12-woman final by finishing third.
The 33-year-old from Comox, B.C., is a two-time Olympic medallist, including gold in 2018 and silver in 2022.
Canada’s Rachael Karker and Amy Fraser have qualified for Saturday’s final.
