Texas A&M (18-8, 8-5 SEC) is coming off Wednesday's dramatic 80-77 comeback win over Ole Miss, holding the Rebels scoreless in the final 3:36, while sophomore sharpshooter Rubén Dominguez and senior forward Zach Clemence combined for 27 points, and hits several clutch shots to bring the Aggies back to life, and leave Reed Arena with a much-needed victory.
Ending what was a miserable four-game losing streak, first-year head coach Bucky McMillan will once again need to lead his team back on the court inside another tough road environment, facing Oklahoma for the second time this season after defeating the Sooners at home earlier this season. Like Ole Miss, Oklahoma's 3-10 conference record has tricked top teams into thinking an easy win is in the offing.
However, McMillan and his veteran team fully understand the Sooners' ability to score at will, looking back at Texas A&M's 83-76 win that features 24 points from Oklahoma transfer guard Nigel Pack, who leads his team in scoring, and is coming off a 20-point performance during Wednesday's blowout road loss vs. Tennessee.
Similar to the Aggies, Oklahoma is shooting 47% from the field and 35.8% from beyond the arc. While defense has been an issue, Texas A&M's defense has also struggled, but showed signs of life during the final minutes of Wednesday's win.
This season, Oklahoma is 9-4 at home, which is average among all 16 SEC teams, but it will look to play spoiler against an Aggie squad needing at least three more wins to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Health-wise, outside of junior forward Mackenzie Mgbako, Texas A&M is 100% healthy, while the Sooners will enter Saturday night's matchup with zero reported injuries.
For the Aggies to pull off the road win, avoiding sluggish play early, shooting with confidence, and forcing steals will be key to keeping the Sooners from getting hot and replicating Ole Miss's performance before the Aggies' late run.
Texas A&M will face Oklahoma in Norman on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on the SEC Network.
