WILLARD - They've been two of the best players around all season and coaches recognized that at the District 6 basketball meeting over the weekend.
Shelby's Brayden DeVito and Plymouth's Jarrett Burrer were named player of the year in Division IV and Division VII respectively. DeVito is averaging 23.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.8 steals heading into the final week of the regular season, Burrer is averaging 19 points per game for the Big Red.
Joining DeVito in Division IV as first teamers were Ontario sophomores Cardae Brown (21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.4 steals, 1.1 blocks) and Trindon Flenoury (17.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.5 steals). On the second team was DeVito's classmate Landon Foltz (12.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals) and Clear Fork junior Carter Coole (9.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.1 blocks). And junior Michael Shepherd (7.8 points. 7.4 rebounds) of Shelby was an honorable mention.
Alongside Burrer in Division VII was sophomore teammate Izaya Reynolds (14 points) plus St. Peter's seniors Wesley Roberts (17 points) and Markeis Johnson (14 points) as second teamers, while Lucas junior Cooper Day (11 points) was an honorable mention.
In Division II, Mansfield Senior sophomore Kaylen Brooks (22.3 points) was second overall in voting earning him first team honors, along with Madison senior Justin McCraney (15.2 points) and Lexington senior Dantrell Hughes (13.7 points). Mansfield Senior seniors Rashad Reed Jr. (11.5 points) and DJ Corbin (9.2 points), plus Lexington freshman Jayden Perkins (10.5 points) were second teamers, while Madison senior Kaleb Gordon (10.8 points) was honorable mention.
In Division VI, Crestview senior Karter Goon (16 points) was the lone first teamer from the area. Mansfield Christian senior Josiah Schleusener (11 points) landed on the second team, Crestview seniors Daniel Wells (13 points) and Drew Spoerr (11 points) earned honorable mention.
