Olympic men’s hockey roundup: Germany, Switzerland advance

Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists as Germany beat France 5-1 in Olympic men’s hockey knockout play on Tuesday.

Germany moves on to face Slovakia in a quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Frederik Tiffels, Joshua Samanski, JJ Peterka and Nico Sturm also scored for the Germans, while Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle had two assists.

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare had the lone French goal.

Switzerland 3, Italy 0

Philipp Kurashev, Nico Hischier and Roman Josi scored as the Swiss knocked out the host country.

Hischier added two assists, while Leonardo Genoni registered the shutout in net.

Switzerland advances to face Finland in a quarterfinal on Wednesday.

The Swiss won silver at last year’s world men’s hockey championship.

Czechia meets Denmark and Sweden battles Latvia later Tuesday in knockout action.
