José Mourinho speaks out on a return to Real Madrid
Tipped as a possible candidate for a return to Real Madrid, José Mourinho has set the record straight. The current SL Benfica coach insists that no discussions have taken place with the Madrid board.
However, he does acknowledge an excellent relationship with club president Florentino Pérez. "We are fantastic friends," he stated, adding that their last exchange was when he signed with Benfica.
Under contract for another year with the Lisbon club, Mourinho is adamant he does not wish to fuel rumors "that do not exist." He even added that it is possible to turn down Real Madrid, while also expressing his respect for Álvaro Arbeloa, whom he believes could enjoy lasting success at the helm of the club.
Having managed Madrid between 2010 and 2013, Mourinho notably captured a La Liga title before leaving on his own terms. Today, he makes it clear: his priority remains Benfica, despite all the speculation.
