The Boston Red Sox are going to have a lot to evaluate this season after trading for All-Star first baseman Willson Contreras this winter.

In making the move happen, it almost seems that Boston is leaning away from Triston Casas after the 26-year-old tore his left patellar tendon at the beginning of 2025. But don't count the young prospect out while he continues to work his way back.

On Monday, Casas made a large step in the right direction while recovering. The real question will be on how the Red Sox decide to use him once he's cleared to come back to the field.

Casas, who was drafted by the Red Sox in the first round of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft, was seen on the field on Monday, taking grounders at first base.

This is great news for the Red Sox, as he's been out since early May after suffering the season-ending injury.

It will be interesting to see how Boston strategizes his recovery while committing to Willson Contreras. The young first baseman spoke on the matter.

"When I'm healthy, I fit on any team," Casas said, according to Patrick McAvoy of SI.com.

"I don't see myself participating with the group, but I will be doing the same activities baseball-wise [as the rest of the team]. But as of right now, I haven't had the clearance to get out there and participate with the group, but I will take ground balls and continue to hit at my own pace, without the structure of being in a team workout."

Before suffering the injury in 2025, Casas ran into a slump at the plate. Through 29 games, he finished the season with a .182 batting average, .277 on-base percentage, and .580 OPS.

Once he is cleared to play, Triston Casas will have a lot to prove. Could it be with a different team or at a new position? Time will tell.
