NFL insider says not to rule out a Rams OC already on staff

The Los Angeles Rams are currently the only NFL team without an offensive coordinator. Mike LaFleur left for the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals, and the Rams are still doing their search a few weeks later.

While many speculated that passing game coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase would get the job, especially after he interviewed for multiple head coaching gigs himself, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer made a different prediction about the team's next offensive coordinator.

"I wouldn’t dismiss the idea that quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone becomes the Rams’ OC," Breer wrote.

Breer named Ragone as someone to watch for the job already. Ragone is a former offensive coordinator himself, so the idea would be that he could slide into the role relatively effortlessly because of his credentials. McVay also mentioned that the team will evaluate internal hires first before expanding its search.

And because McVay calls the offensive plays, the role is less enticing to an up-and-coming assistant like Scheelhaase. It would then allow Scheelhaase to remain in his current role while still setting him up for success in future head coaching interviews.

Another name to watch for the job is Kliff Kingsbury, who has experience in the role and recently joined the Rams' staff this offseason.
