FC Barcelona have been proactive in shielding the futures of not only the core of their first-team squad but also young talents coming through the ranks at La Masia.
Juan Hernandez, who has already had some first-team exposure with the first team, was the latest youth prospect to sign a new contract with the club. And now, the Blaugrana are working to tie down the future of another young talent.
Guillem Victor to renew until 2028
Indeed, according to SPORT, Barcelona are set to renew the contract of Guillem Victor, whose current deal stands to expire on 30 June.
Guillem, the brother of former Barça forward Pau Victor, joined the youth setup in the 2018/19 season and is now in his eighth year within the club’s academy structure.
The teenage right-back signed his first professional contract when he turned 16, and that deal expires on 30 June. Currently a part of the Juvenil A setup, Barça count on him for the future.
For that reason, the Catalans have offered him a two-season renewal so that he becomes part of the Barça Atletic squad for the next two campaigns.
There is already a full agreement between all parties, and only the formal documentation remains to be signed to finalise the deal.
So far this season, Victor has played 18 matches for the Juvenil A team, seven of which have come in the UEFA Youth League, while he has also made four appearances for Barça Atletic. He was also called up to train with the first team once by Hansi Flick.
A right-back primarily, Victor has also filled in at centre-back, left-back, on the wings higher up the pitch, and even in midfield at times, giving an insight into his versatility and tactical flexibility.
The 18-year-old’s reading and understanding of the game and technique make him a stand-out prospect in the academy, which is why Barcelona have moved to renew his contract, which will see him get promoted to Barça Atletic full-time next season.
